Stakeholders Welcome Postponement Of School Opening

Some stakeholders have applauded the government for the extension of the opening date of schools from January 10th to January 24th due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia -BETUZ- General Secretary HENRY SINKALA says the extension will allow schools to prepare adequately before opening.

Mr SINKALA says the escalating cases of Covid-19 are worrying hence the need to put in place proper measures before schools open.

He has advised parents to use the extension period to ensure school pupils are vaccinated against the pandemic.

And, Zambia National Union of Teachers -ZNUT- General Secretary NEWMAN BUBALA says the extention will give school administrators time to put in place anti COVID 19 measures ahead of the opening of schools.

Mr BUBALA says the Union is in support of the government’s move to extend the school opening date.

Meanwhile, Zambia National Education Coalition ZANEC Executive Director GEORGE HAMUSUNGA says schools should put in place adequate public health measures to ensure pupils learn in a safe environment prior to opening.

And, Some Lusaka Parents says the extension will give time for parents to have their Children vaccinated against COVID-19 pandemic.
