The Ministry of Education has further postponed the opening of schools and colleges from January 29, 2024 to February 12, 2024.
Education Minister DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA says this is in view of the Cholera cases which have spread to other parts of the country.
Mr. SYAKALIMA says the National Disaster Management and Mitigation Council of Ministers at a meeting held today, guided the Ministry of Education to further postpone the opening date to February 12.
Addressing the media in Lusaka today, the Education Minister said that the school calendar for 2024 for all public, private, grant aided, community schools and colleges has since been adjusted to recover the lost time.
Mr. SYAKALIMA said that schools and colleges will open for term ONE on Monday February 12, 2024 and close on Friday April 26, 2024.
He said that term TWO will run from Monday May 6 to August 9, 2024.
Mr. SYAKALIMA also said schools and colleges will open for term THREE on Monday September 2, 2024 and will close on Friday December 6, 2024.
He said alternative modes of learning which have been put in place by the Ministry of Education should be utilised to ensure that learners are kept constructively busy.
